The main cause of rust on electric bicycle frames is the accumulation of moisture and dirt. It is recommended to regularly clean the frame with a neutral detergent or soapy water, paying particular attention to areas prone to water accumulation such as welded joints and screw holes. After cleaning, thoroughly dry the frame to avoid residual moisture. If the vehicle is used in rainy or humid environments, wipe the frame with a dry cloth promptly and park it in a well-ventilated and dry place. For long-term parking, it is recommended to use a dust cover to reduce moisture and dust corrosion.
2. Physical Rust Removal and Surface Protection
If minor rust has appeared, first use a wire brush or sandpaper to polish the rusted area, then use a carburetor cleaner to remove residual oil. After cleaning, apply a special rust inhibitor or anti-corrosion coating (such as lead oxide primer + topcoat) to isolate it from air and moisture. For critical areas such as the frame number, regular waxing can form a protective film and enhance rust prevention.
3. Regular Application of Rust-Preventive Materials
Rust-preventive oils and waxes can effectively delay metal oxidation. It is recommended to apply a full coat of rust inhibitor to the frame every 3-6 months, paying particular attention to seams and hidden areas. Spray-on rust inhibitors are easy to apply, but ensure good ventilation during application; paste-type products have stronger adhesion and are suitable for targeted protection in specific areas.
4. Environmental Management and Storage Recommendations
Avoid prolonged exposure of electric vehicles to high-humidity environments (such as beaches or basements). Prioritize dry, well-ventilated indoor parking areas. If outdoor parking is necessary, install waterproof mats or use moisture-proof brackets to reduce contact with ground moisture.
5. Structural Protection and Inspection
Regularly inspect frame welds and bolt connections for rust or coating peeling, and promptly reapply protective materials. For high-end models, consider electroplating or anodizing to improve long-term rust resistance.
