What is a bicycle front fork?

The bicycle front fork is a guiding component in the bicycle structure. Located at the front, it connects to the handlebars at the top and is fixed to the front wheel axle at the bottom. Rotation adjusts direction and controls riding. Its load-bearing structure is a cantilever beam, requiring sufficient strength to support the bicycle frame and cushion road impacts.

Front forks are mainly classified into spring-type and air-type based on their elastic medium. Spring forks use metal or titanium alloy springs, offering high stability but greater weight; air-type forks utilize compressed air for elasticity, are lightweight, and highly adjustable, but require strict sealing. Damping systems absorb impact energy through hydraulic or gas pressure and adjust the rebound speed to adapt to different road conditions. A high-quality suspension fork must balance smoothness, weight, and rigidity, achieving a balance between responsiveness and structural durability.
